Brynaman 61 Resolven 0
Bryn rounded off the festive season and marched into 2015 with a magnificent seventh consecutive league win. Struggling Resolven have yet to find any real consistency this season and despite some heroic tackling they were ultimately unable to stem the relentless Greens’ onslaught.
Dafydd Jones playing at full back opened Bryn’s account with a penalty at 3-0, before a lineout steal on half way gave centre Steffan Duggan an early opportunity to showcase his talented footwork. Having sidestepped his opposite number the Bryn centre raced home from 50 yards for a touchdown under the posts. Dafydd Jones converted for a 10-0 lead before slotting a further penalty as Bryn led 13-0. Jones was soon involved once again this time expertly fielding a speculative up and under.
Having shaken off the attention of the Resolven attackers a neat pass to Tristan Lewis saw Bryn’s flyer race to within a couple of metres of the Resolven goal line. Having retained possession quick ruck ball delivered by scrum half Lee Evans gave Greens’ centre Paul Taylor the opportunity to power over from close range for Bryn’s second try. Dafydd Jones converted as the lead increased to 20-0. Further relentless pressure exerted by the dominant Greens’ pack led to a five yard scrummage. Unable to hold the surge Resolven were driven back over their own line as Bryn No8 Gethin Bugler touched down for the Greens’ third try. Dafydd Jones converted once again as the score increased to 27-0.
By now experienced second row Chris Bartholomew was creating havoc with his counter rucking and having charged through the fragile Resolven defence he regained possession before off-loading to scrum half Lee Evans. With 22 metres to go a superb diagonal run by the Bryn inside half brought the crowd to their feet as he raced home in the corner for Bryn’s fourth try and a half time lead of 32-0.

With the try bonus point already secured it was a somewhat slow start to the second period as the visitors frustrated Bryn with some heroic defence. Ultimately however normal service was soon resumed as Bryn surged forward once again to within inches of the Resolven try line. This time skipper Sion Slyman was on hand to present a try scoring pass to centre Paul Taylor who powered over for his second try of the afternoon as Bryn increased the lead to 37-0. From the restart a blind side break by scrum half Lee Evans found centre Steffan Duggan at full tilt and having beaten the first defender he then conjured a teasing chip which rolled towards the Resolven line.
Bryn’s inspirational skipper Sion Slyman swiftly won the chase and dived over for the Greens’ sixth try. This time outside half Craig Jones converted as the score became 44-0. Skipper Sion Slyman was then instrumental in launching Bryn’s next attack as he seized possession following a loose clearance kick by the visitors. After brushing aside several would be tacklers, he then produced a slick inside pass to outside half Craig Jones. Wing Tristan Lewis then provided an electrifying burst of pace before linking with prop Alun Morgan. Held just inches short Morgan off loaded securely to replacement flanker Joel Spurway who crashed over in the shadow of the posts for Bryn’s eighth try.
Craig Jones converted increasing the score to 56-0. With barely five minutes remaining Greens’ wing Owain Sullivan gathered another loose clearance by the visitors before setting off on a sizzling run along the right hand touchline. In an instant three Resolven defenders were visibly left clutching thin air as Bryn’s elusive flyer rounded off a magical 50 yard run by touching down for a memorable score and a final score of 61-0.
