Brynaman travelled to Nantymoel expecting the home team to be fired up and out for revenge for the 43-0 loss the Greens dished out in Parc y Gwter Fawr back in October, but once again the Amman Valley side proved too much for their hosts.
The home team started brighter playing down the slope and scored the first try which was converted. Greens outside half Rhys Williams landed three first half penalties and a Dafydd Hopkins run, carrying Nantymoel forwards on his back, saw the Greens awarded a scrum close to the Nantymoel line. A textbook blind side move involving scrum half Lee Evans and number eight Gethyn Bugler sent left wing Tomos Powell over in the right hand corner for Bryn’s first try.
The second half started like the first with the Moel forwards carrying strongly but the Greens’ back row trio of Sion Slyman, Clive Llewelyn and Man of the Match Bugler put in a massive shift to halt home progress.
Much to the Greens’ forwards frustration a series of poor clearance kicks kept the hosts pinned in the visitors ’22 and it took a turnover and a relieving Rhys Williams kick to march his pack onwards. A big Luc Rees ‘bomb’ was then volleyed back speculatively straight into the hands of centre Steffan Duggan, who made a searing outside break and fed wing Powell for his fifth touchdown in two games. Williams again converted. In the latter stages the Greens then took complete control and added two further tries from a Bugler catch and drive and a neat backs move that was rounded off by wing Owain Sullivan for the try bonus.
Final Score : Nantymoel 10 Brynaman 33
