Champions Celebrate in 40th Anniversary Reunion

It’s incredible to believe that a full forty years has now passed since Brynaman were crowned West Wales Rugby Union Champions in April 1977. In honour of this achievement a reunion was held at the clubhouse on Saturday 29th April 2017.  Esteemed former referee, broadcaster and author Alun Wyn Bevan presided over the evenings events which began with two remarkable presentations.

The first being a framed  Barbarians  Jersey worn by Shane Williams (Wales and British Lions) in what was his solitary appearance for the famous invitational club against Wales on 2nd June 2012. This unique item of memorabilia was presented to Club Secretary Eric Griffiths, by Shane’s father Mark Williams in what was clearly a moment of personal pride and reflection. Following this an official presentation of the Dai Tom Davies Memorial Legacy Plaque was accepted by Dafydd Moses in formal recognition of the generous legacy bequeathed to the club recently.

Alun Wyn Bevan then regaled the well-attended audience with some humorous and reflective anecdotes before introducing a short film prepared by Colin Jones. Using some old cine footage and archive photographs, Colin’s impressively professional video production gave a vivid illustration of the Club’s rugby life and achievements  in the late 1970’s in what was without doubt a golden era for Brynaman Rugby.
