Clinical Pencoed punish Bryn with ruthless finishing

Pencoed 47  Brynaman 23

Bryn’s quest for an away win at The Verlands continues after a match in which the Greens contributed greatly to their own downfall.

The homesters raced into a 13-0 lead via two penalties and a converted try before scrum half Dafydd Jones pulled Bryn back to 13-9 with three penalties.

At half time Bryn appeared to have weathered the early storm and continued to shade both the territory and possession statistics, but some wayward kicking and some rustiness in attack allowed the home side to capitalise ruthlessly.

Four tries two of which were converted put Pencoed out of sight at 37-9 before Bryn finally got their act together with a try by flanker Joel Spurway. Dafydd Jones converted. Centre Paul Taylor pounced from Bryn’s second try minutes later and after Dafydd Jones added the extras an unlikely come back looked a distinct possibility at 37-23.

However Pencoed  soon regrouped and added a further penalty to extend the lead to 40-23. As the game ebbed away Bryn’s tired defence was breached once more as Pencoed wrapped up proceedings with their sixth try and a final score of 47-23.

Bryn play Maesteg RFC home next Saturday – first fixture ever versus the Old Parish.
