Glyncorrwg hit for six !

Glyncorrwg  0  Brynaman 41

Glyncorrwg were literally hit for six on Saturday as a clinical and professional display by the Greens wrapped up the try bonus for the second week running. With Bryn’s front five totally in command the home side were penned in their own half throughout the first period. No8 Gethin Bugler piled on the early pressure picking up from the base and surging forward towards the home 22. Desperate defence by Glyncorrwg conceded a clear penalty which Bryn outside half Craig Jones slotted comfortably for a 3-0 lead. Within minutes the Greens were back on the attack and from a five yard scrum Bryn were awarded a clear cut penalty try as the Glyncorrwg eight collapsed under severe pressure. Craig Jones added the conversion from under the posts as Bryn led 10-0. A dangerous spear tackle on Greens’ wing Owain Sullivan then saw the hosts reduced to 14 men and Bryn quickly took full advantage as outside half Craig Jones’ wide pass found the fully recovered Sullivan racing up in support. Putting on the after burners Bryn’s young flyer rounded the last defender in style crossing for Bryn’s second try on the far right for a 15-0 lead. With half time rapidly approaching Bryn were once again thriving due to the erratic kicking of the home defence, and when another five yard scrum was awarded it looked ominous for the Glyncorrwg pack. Again Bryn’s front five of Dewi Slyman, Alun Morgan, Steff Weaver-Davies, Chris Bartholomew and Grant Milne must take full credit as Bryn put on the squeeze and marched relentlessly towards the try line. With the pressure clearly immense it was no surprise that the scrummage eventually disintegrated, and as before the referee had no hesitation in awarding another penalty try. Craig Jones converted for a half time score of 22-0. In the second period Bryn varied their approach and concentrated their efforts on the driving lineout. This strategy was soon rewarded when a majestic catch by second row Chris Bartholomew set up flanker Joel Spurway for a trademark poachers try at 27-0. With the try bonus now secured Bryn threw caution to the wind and with full back Josh Ferriman tormenting the home side with straight running from broken play it was inevitable Bryn would score again. Young wing Eurig Morgan then went agonisingly close when an earlier pass would surely have seen him score. Any let up for the home side was short lived however as Craig Jones’ chip had Glyncorrwg backpedalling frantically once again. Centre Paul Taylor’s crunching tackle saw Glyncorrwg cough up the ball in contact and with Steff Duggan in support to pass the loose ball off the floor full back Josh Ferriman raced home for an excellent score. Craig Jones added the extras as Bryn’s lead increased to 34-0. Bryn’s final try again originated from a Craig Jones chip ahead. This time it was replacement wing Kieran Turner who applied the decisive pressure and with second row Chris Bartholomew in close support to pick up the ball dislodged in the tackle, prop Dewi Slyman galloped home from fully five yards (or was it 50?) for a memorable score.
