Determined Greens Hold On For Well Deserved Win

Brynamman 27-24 Maesteg Celtic

Notoriously slow starters, the Greens needed to get their season going after  showing only one losing bonus point from last two games, but they had to be on top of their game against a much improved Celtic outfit. The game started with poor ill discipline and errors allowing Celtic to cross in returning winger Gareth Drewson's corner, much to his displeasure. This fired the Greens pack into life and were awarded a penalty which captain Steff Duggan opted to scrum. After a series of re-sets the referee had no option but to award the greens a penalty try. Chris Moore added the extras 7-5. The Greens then lost flanker Samuel Lewis to a nasty head injury.
The Celtic outside half added two further penalties and Moore kicked one to make the half time score 10-11.

Head coach for the day Chris Moore read the Greens the riot act at half time and as a result the greens started the second half brighter.Good build up by the pack enabled the backs to produce a move straight off the training ground to send wing Jack Westcott on debut over in the corner. Moore added the extras.
The greens went on the attack straight from the kick off and after some good phase play, Dafydd Jones who came on for Lee Evans stood at outside half and threw an outrageous 'miss four 'pass only to bounce into the hands of Jonny Bevan who used his speed, power and substantial bulk to power over from 40 meters. Moore once again added the extras.
The Celtic outside half kept his team in the game as he kicked 2 penalties. The score going into the last 20 was 24-17. With ten minutes left after a series of yellow cards and one red the greens were awarded a penalty and Moore converted to take the greens out to a 10 point lead. Celtic threw the kitchen sink at the Greens but dogged Greens defence kept them out till 5 seconds remaining on the clock. Greens were then awarded a penalty and it was kicked to touch and the ref blew the final whistle much to the relief of the greens players and supporters.
The Greens are on the road next week away at Cwmafan where the Greens management team will be sweating on the fitness of 3 key players who left the field with injuries, bus leaves Clubhouse at 12.15pm and all supporters are invited to join the squad for their educational trip to Swansea afterwards.
