Quins Weather The Storm To Grind Out Victory

Bryn lost an opportunity to close the gap on the section pacesetters Aberavon Quins last Saturday, but in all honesty the prevailing gale force conditions meant the result was always going to be something of a lottery.

With ‘Storm Desmond’ battering Brynaman as well most of the UK it was the visitors who ultimately coped better with the extreme elements.

Playing into the gale and the lashing rain Bryn started really brightly but it was the Quins who opened the scoring with a penalty at 0-3. A converted try soon followed at 0-10 before centre Steff Duggan pulled the Greens back with two penalty goals at 6-13. Just before the interval Quins replied with another penalty to lead 6-16 at half time.

Given the ferocity of the squall a ten point deficit didn’t appear too insurmountable but for whatever reason the Greens failed to raise the intensity in what turned out to be a dour second half.

In fairness although both sides slugged it out admirably, overall there was little to excite either set of supporters. Eventually with time running out Bryn set off from deep inside their own 22 in search of a consolation bonus point. Disappointingly however the strategy backfired as a dropped pass gifted the visitors their second converted try at 6-23 which sealed the Greens’ fate.
