Taibach demolished !

Saturday 4th April 2015

Brynaman  97  Taibach  12

Prior to kick off the visitors announced they had no option other than to request passive scrums due to a lengthy injury list and Bank Holiday unavailability. Their woes were soon compounded further when an early try by Greens’ wing Trystan Lewis set the tone for what was to be a long afternoon for the Plough faithful. An acrobatic juggling interception by centre Steffan Duggan created the second try scoring opportunity for Trystan Lewis and with scrum half Dafydd Jones’ successful conversion Bryn led 12-0 in as many minutes. Steffan Duggan was next to cross the whitewash following a neat line break instigated by full back Kieron Bennett. Dafydd Jones converted for a lead of 19-0. With an afternoon off from scrummaging prop Dewi Slyman had energy to burn and after a powerful run into Taibach territory, second row Chris Bartholomew was on hand to take a neat off load for the bonus point try. Once again Dafydd Jones converted as Bryn led 26-0 midway through the first half. Centre Kevin Jones enjoying a welcome return to full fitness ensured there was no hiding place for the visitors, powering his way over for Bryn’s fifth try after a typically robust power play. Dafydd Jones added the extras at 33-0, before full back Kieron Bennett claimed Bryn’s sixth try after some slick interplay by the three quarters. Dafydd Jones’ conversion ensured the lead raced to 40-0 with half time approaching. After a memorable fifty yard break by number eight Clive Llewelyn, rolling back the years in the spring sunshine, wing Owain Sullivan finally rounded off the first half proceedings with Bryn’s seventh try. Another successful conversion by Dafydd Jones resulted in a lead of 47-0 at the interval.

Half Time: Brynaman  47  Taibach  0

After the break a quick tap penalty by Dafydd Jones set up Trystan Lewis’ for his hat trick try as the Bryn onslaught continued unabated. Another deft conversion by Jones pushed Bryn past the half century at 54-0. Hooker Rhodri Dennard then stepped up for Greens’ try number nine which was just reward for some tireless support play. Dafydd Jones once again landed the conversion as Bryn led 61-0. Wing Owain Sullivan raced clear for his second try of the afternoon increasing the lead to 66-0 before Kevin Jones offloaded to flanker Joel Spurway for Bryn’s eleventh five-pointer at 71-0. Dafydd Jones’s ninth conversion followed as Bryn led 73-0. Wing Trystan Lewis then completed his four try haul as the Greens powered further ahead at 78-0. Finally there was some welcome relief for the visitors as a lack of concentration by the Greens allowed Taibach to score a well taken try and conversion thereby reducing the deficit to 78-7. Normal service was soon resumed however as flanker Joel Spurway grabbed his second try of the afternoon at 83-7. Not to be outdone outside half Craig Jones then grabbed a brace of tries in quick succession and with the successful conversion of his second try; Bryn’s lead was increased to 97-7 with about five minutes remaining. With a hundred points now a distinct possibility Bryn were probably guilty of over complicating things and ultimately it was the visitors who had the last word crossing for their second try and a final score of 97-12.
