Greens taste 'Derby Day' Victory !

Cwmgors  5 Brynaman  17

In a much anticipated long overdue local derby the Greens from the ‘Gwter Fawr’ had too much for the Cherries. Cwmgors started the brightest with outside half Steffan Rees peppering the corners and relying on Cwmgors game plan of catch and drives in which they scored the first try of the game through ex Green Caron Jones.

This was the wakeup call the Greens needed as the pack came to life. The front row of Dewi Slyman Alun Morgan and Steffan Weaver Davies drove the Greens scrum forward at a rate of knots in which the referee awarded a kickable penalty in which the ever reliable Dafydd  Jones converted. The Cwmgors back row tried to rattle the experienced and classy greens outside half Craig jones but this resulted in the referee awarding the greens another penalty in Daf Jones range in which he slotted over.

Half -Time:  Cwmgors 5 Brynamman 6

It was all one way traffic second half with impressive Greens forwards Daniel Page, Grant Milne, Joel Spurway and Clive Llewelyn taking the game to the Cherries which resulted in another two kickable penalties that Dafydd Jones expertly converted. The second half was marred with typical local derby unsavoury incidents and eventually the referee had no option in sin binning Greens skipper Chris Bartholomew and Cherries 10 Steffan Rees. Greens coach Mark Jones then introduced hooker Chris White and open side Sion Slyman into the fray. This created an immediate impact and with slick inter passing from a line out between Paul Taylor, Steffan Duggan, Kieran Bennett and Josh Ferriman speedy winger Owain Sullivan was sent over in to the corner much to the delight of the loyal Greens’ travelling support.
